Are you using NLP to increase your persuasion power?

by Scott Maly

Persuasion is a key life skill whether you trying to persuade a client, business associate or family member. Fortunately anyone who has attended NLP training or is planning on attending training has access to some powerful skills that can be used in the persuasion process.

NLP skills can be applied to do the following:

· Create rapport in seconds with almost anyone.
· Discover what other people really want and need.
· Communicate in language that is most accepted and easily understood by the other person.
· Discover common values of almost anyone.
· Motivate other people to take a specific action.

The first NLP skill used in persuasion is matching and mirroring - this can include matching a mirroring the person’s movements, vocal qualities, beliefs and values. One of primary reasons for pacing someone is to eventually lead them where you want them to go. However, pacing must be done and deep rapport established before effective leading can take place.

Another NLP skill is to discover what other people want and need by eliciting their values and finding out what's most important to them, this is done primarily by asking a series of specific questions. Once someone’s values are determined, you can then align you product, service or idea with their highest value.

In addition, using VAK submodalities and metaprograms can be leveraged and utilized to ensure the information (your message) is processed by both the persons conscious and unconscious mind. This can helpful to a business person, sales person, coach, therapist or parent to get anyone to take a specific action or accept an idea.

One of the many benefits of NLP training is a dramatic increase in a person’s ability to persuade, which could be one of the greatest benefits and life skills of all. When reviewing various training programs to attend, identifying training programs that emphasize the persuasion and influence applications as part of their NLP training program are especially valuable.

If you haven't taken any NLP trainings, now is a great time to make a change and learn the skills you need to create the life you want. Imagine how many ways your life would improve if you could master these skills.

Remember, as Robert Louis Stevenson said, "Everyone lives by selling something".
