Two Reasons Why eBooks Would Become More Popular
by DonIn recent years, there is increasing trend toward reading ebooks instead of traditional books. While most people still read traditional books instead of ebooks, if the trend continues there is a good chance that several years from now there will be just as many people reading ebooks as those reading traditional books. Who knows, perhaps eventually traditional books will disappear. But why is that the case? Why do ebooks become more and more popular?
I can think of at least two reasons for the increasing popularity of ebooks over traditional books. First, you can easily carry ebooks – even large number of them– wherever you go. With traditional books you will have to carry a large and heavy bag to do that. But with ebooks, all you need to bring is a device like a cell phone or PDA in which you store your ebooks. There is no difference between carrying just one ebook and one thousand of them. It's like bringing a library along with you wherever you go.
A second reason is the the ability search within ebooks. With traditional books, you can only use the index to find topics you are interested in. But there are times when the index can't help you find what you want and you are left alone with a large amount o f text to search in. This problem doesn't happen on ebooks since you can easily use the search feature to find exactly what you want. I don't know about you, but for me this is a great benefit since I often need to refer to parts of books for writing purposes.
There is a good chance that these two benefits (portability and ability to search) will become more and more important for many people in the coming years. As people become more mobile and information oriented, the those two benefits of ebooks will make them the preferred choice over traditional books.
